Belong is a word that came out of a 75 page document we initially wrote to understand one simple thing: why are we building this company?
Why does it matter to us that the right people come together at the right time? Why are we constantly hearing our friends, entrepreneurs, and many others telling us they want to work with someone they enjoy working with? Or, why are we all seeking opportunities that will allow us to make an impact?
In these questions, it became clear to us that happiness for all of us today, more so than ever, stems from being happy at our workplaces. We as humans are not meant to be resources. We are Human Beings with real aspirations, and we are meant to belong -- especially with people and in places we spend almost 70 per cent of our lifetime, working.
Call us crazy, but we believe for any two people to connect and build something together -- be it a company, a social movement, or even a revolution -- it always requires them to connect on something deeper and more lasting than "skills". Their values and their culture must fit. If there's anything, the two must truly feel that they belong together.
We believe for any two people to connect and build something together -- be it a company, a social movement, or even a revolution -- it always requires them to connect on something deeper and more lasting than "skills". Their values and their culture must fit.
And we are crazy about making this happen. With Belong, we are bringing data and science to a problem that has largely been left untouched. We are today helping companies and people connect on culture and values as much as on skills and experience, but we believe we are only at the start of our attempt.
Why are we going to be able to do it? We asked this of ourselves a lot, and we only had two clear points:
- We are never going to give up.
- We really want to solve this problem. In fact, all of us from the founding team at Belong spent most of our time in our previous companies building teams and helping many others find people and places they felt they belonged with. And knowing there are more happy people in the world, thanks to us, is what drives us back to point 1. :)
We have been fortunate to have an amazing group of companies who believed in us from the very start, many of whom have seen great success, and some who are yet to (we're honest). We are working now to take this to a larger scale - with a passionate team that is still growing - and we are excited to help more people find companies and people they belong with.
Help us make this happen. Shouldn't I/we/all belong?
